vintage children's books

i've always loved children's picture books and bought them even before i had a child. now that there is an aspiring reader-to-be in the house i can indulge even more in lovely picture books :) we got some vintage picture books from a friend the other day, and i find it interesting how even the styles of children's books change throughout the years:

i especially like the above picture, it has such an artsy/mixed media feel to it. we love newer books too, by the way :) our current faves are these two seasonal books: Winter by Gerda Muller and Flannel Kisses. both with lovely, detailed pictures. soon it's time to look for spring books!

I used to constantly buy the classic childrens books from thrift stores for my sister's classroom.... she had to tell me to stop! But I love a good old book (children's or not)

hm, makes me think it's time for a new book for spencer...

these pages are really nice. i don't really have many children's books but i do have a big bin of toys for visiting children of almost all ages.

Yeah! Here they are again: these two rose-cheeked girls washing. When I was young, I grew up with girls and boys of that style...(...and with my mom washing by hand with a ruffle in a tub in the backyard, which made helping her so exciting).
